Brian Newby, PHD, CAADC, MSW
Brian graduated from University of Delaware with a PhD in Sociology in 2014. He worked as a Sociology professor at several DE and PA universities and colleges, educating students on a variety of topics from race/ethnicity, human sexuality (including multicultural and kink approaches), social problems, and technological change. He also functioned as an LBGTQ+ Safe Space trainor, sensitizing faculty and staff to the needs of students identifying as LBGTQ+. After working as an addiction counselor for over 2 years, Brian earned his advanced certification as a substance use counselor in 2020. Brian employs a variety of techniques when working with clients, including cognitive behavioral and dialectic therapeutic techniques, as well as motivational interviewing. In his spare time, Brian researches the use of Tarot cards in therapeutic settings.
